RAM boost
« on: February 08, 2019, 10:23:15 AM »
I have 16mb Kingston HyperX PC3 1866Mhz in my (Overclockers built in early 2015) PC atm.

I believe we are advised to run with 32mb as things stand? Have just contacted Overclockers and they don't have anything to match -although the chap on the phone thought I might be fine just trying to get something close as possible -which a quick search reveals as being similar available out there. Would that work, or am I just best and getting 32mb of the latest stuff?

If possible I'd prefer not to spend a fortune but ultimately I want to improve my machine and not possibly hinder it with a cheap bodge.

My PC; i7 -4790k 4.00Ghz, Asus Z97-k DDR3 MB, GF GTX980 4096mb, SSD (samsung 500GB).

Unless I could get my hands on exactly the same part number (see sticker on RAM), I wouldn’t bother. If you mix and match, you may find that you run into stability issues when you least expect it.

Not long ago, I was in the same boat as you, but lucked out on finding the right - exact same part(s). Otherwise, I would have bit the bullet and started a fresh.

Scout other suppliers, even Amazon. You may get lucky.

The Kingston HyperX should be fairly common and easy to find Arch. I had 8GB prior and I too lucked out on he exact same model number on Amazon. Have 16GB now.

If you’re on DDR3 I would consider a mobo, cpu & RAM upgrade to DDR4 (obviously a much more expensive prospect though).

Hey Arch.. found this on Amazon.com US I think. Don't know what the import costs would be though. Maybe you can check if you put your address in?

https://www.amazon.com/Kingston-HyperX-FURY-2x8GB-1866MHz/dp/B00J8E8Y5C?th=1

This is the closest part number I can find to the one you have.

BTW, after a bit of checking, the Kingston website itself doesn't have your part number listed there..

Look for the table below.
