Gutted....
« on: April 26, 2019, 07:47:54 PM »

Guys - not sure what’s happening but I think my PC is shagged...

Started with random black screens yesterday which after looking in the event log looked to be a graphics driver issues relating to a nvidia file missing.   It’s now degraded to me not being able to get past the Bios into the windows logon . Or when I do, it freezes and crashes again.

I wouldn’t mind if it was clear what the problem is. It I have a feeling it’s not going to a quick or painless fix.  Seems to get worse the longer the computer is on tho that wasn’t the case yesterday evening...

Wish me luck ;(

Not happy ;)

Check CPU temps and fans / coolers are running correctly. Re-seat GFX card and RAM. Check power connections to GFX card and Modo. Check PSU line voltages in BIOS, if possible. There shouldn’t be too much deviation.

Disconnect alll devices with the exception of 1 x stick of RAM, boot hard disk, plus mouse and keyboard.

Just a few things off the top of my head.

Good luck!

Can't add any tech-help (don't have any...) but hope you get it sorted mate.

Thanks guys - after lots of messing about and a fresh install the problem hasn’t gone away.  I’m 95% sure it’s the graphics card which has been causing the problem.  Just a shame I can’t afford a new one at the mo ;(

Will be back as soon as I can...

Sorry to hear that, Mako.

On the bright side, you now have more time for box training. :)

If you really think it’s the graphics card then get a super cheap one for £20 off Facebook or eBay to test the theory.

Thanks guys - now almost 100% sure it’s the graphics card as during the reinstall of windows the screen went black (the fault I’ve been getting throughout), though the install completed ok in the background..  also gets worse the longer the machine has been on which again lends me to think it’s the card.  18 days out of warranty too ;(

You could still try the warranty aspect mate - make a big song and dance about it and they might cave in...

Already on it - no response yet.

I’ve swapped out the PSU to a 850w instead of a 650 as I run 2 x 4K monitors and I was unsure whether there was enough juice for the 1080ti - the problem persisted... ;(

I’ve now swapped out the Graphics card this evening to something ‘newer’ and so far.....  no issues.  Other than me living in fear of the Mrs finding out how much I’ve spent!

Good to hear you appear to have fixed it at least.

As to what to tell the missus; how about 'well, it was the same software that was in the Boeing 737max, and I couldn't risk it?'

I’ve sold it as future proofing!
